A Nutty Competition: LBCC's Annual Hazelnut Competition

                                    

 LBCC hosts annual Hazelnut Competition. The Hazelnuts are donated by locals. There were 6 LBCC Culinary Students who competed in the even, whose creations were voted on by a panel of judges for the chance to win money.


                                          Nuo Cheng, is garnishing his plate as the competition is winding down.

                      The culinary students are rushing around to make sure their dishes get finished in time.

Christopher Batman   Christopher Batman is in his second term of his freshman year, majoring in Machine Tools. Christopher has spent the past 5 years in the Army, and is now transitioning from the structured life that the army provides, to the loose setting of a college campus. He has spent most of his free time in the veteran center at LBCC, and it has been a major safe haven for him. He explains how great it is to have a place to connect with people who are used to the lifestyle of the military; 5 a.m wake ups and the fast paced and "craziness you see in the real army". With a wake up time of 6 a.m Christopher is excited to have a class this term at 9 a.m, where last term all of his classes started at 1 p.m. and he was bored all day. Live Action Aladdin Review

Photo Courtesy of Disney       It came as no surprise to me that one search of the 2019 live-action version of “Aladdin” on Google came up with a mirage of reviews with claims such as “an embarrassment to Disney” and “this is not what you wished for” and one scalding review after another. Those who aren’t angry, are mostly just confused. It seems like most people don't really know how to feel. I knew there would be some awful reviews, hell, I think skeptical and scolding reviews were coming out before the movie even hit the box office. It was like people were ready to hate it, looking for every reason to pick apart the movie. The key, I think, is not to think of the movie as a remake, but its own separate story. The new live-action “Aladdin” makes some changes from the original animated version. For starters, they attempt to delete potentially racist scenes or lines that the 1992 “Aladdin” overlooked. My Photo Journalism Goals-- Did I accomplish them?

Week 1: One of my goals for this class is to become more out going with strangers. With the first photo assignment I had a hard time talking with strangers, even though most of them had been super interesting and welcoming. I also hope to learn more about camera setting, and photo editing. Week 10: Well I'll admit I don't really think I'm better at talking with strangers, I'm awkward, and I don't think thats ever gonna change. With that said, I think I am much better at walking up to people and asking them weird personal and intrusive questions. I still feel weird, but I have learned that people, to my dismay, are very willing to answer personal and intrusive questions. I am much better at setting the ISO and F-stop to the weather and lighting. I am also better at seeing when a photo could look really good with different edits, and am more willing to try bold things.
